Dr Brian Hsu is an experienced Adult and Paediatric Spine Surgeon consulting and operating across Sydney. He has 15+ years of spinal surgery experience and has developed significant expertise performing orthopaedic spine surgery in both paediatric and adult patients.

Dr Hsu completed his medical degree at the University of Sydney in 1996 and then went on to complete orthopaedic surgical training in NSW, achieving Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2007.

Dr Hsu pursued his interest in spine surgery and was successfully selected to complete two sub-specialised spine surgery fellowships at prestigious international institutions in the USA, which offer experience at high-volume, cutting-edge hospitals and training under luminary international spine specialists.

Dr Hsu’s area of interest is in all aspects of spine surgery and spinal disorders, particular adult and paediatric spine deformity, complex cervical reconstructions, spinal osteotomies and degenerative cervical and lumbar conditions.

Dr Hsu has a genuine interest in medical education and research, and is a participant in global spinal organisations. He has given numerous presentations at both national and international meetings and is published in the journal Spine, an international journal for the study of the spine. He has also written several book chapters.

     Dr Hsu is fluent in both English and Cantonese

International Fellowship Training

  • Clinical Spine Fellow, Twin Cities Spine Centre, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Experience in adult and paediatric spine surgery at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and Gillette Children’s Hospital. (12 months duration).
  • Clinical Spine Fellow, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of California, San Francisco. Experience in complex adult spinal reconstructions for spinal deformities and paediatric scoliosis (6 months duration).
